My ultimate goal: Child inclusion

Many people say "we don't even know what the children's rights elite wants" when criticizing our movement. This movement, by my standard as a conservative, is poor at expressing their agenda in a way that caters to those of us not on the left. There is one main goal of a children's rights community - including children in the national conversation, and holding space for a lobby of child self-advocates.

How do we hold space for the outspokenness of children? Allow them to have whatever opinion they want around you, and maybe you have a discussion with them as an equal, but NEVER shut down the opinion of a child, no matter how fringe it may be. I had fringe leftist opinions as a child, and though I regret them, I am glad I was at least heard out somewhat, even if I wasn't taken seriously all of the time.

The child lobby is definitely left, and I am definitely not left and lean to the right, but we get along just fine. By child lobby, I refer to how I see the ignored constituency that is the child population in this country. I recognize this constituency, and claim ignorance on a lot of issues until they decide, and allow them to change my mind on others - 18 is my age of consent, but do they want it lowered? Will they start lobbying for sex with children? On that particular issue, my understanding is that children want close-in-age exemptions that are reasonable and won't get them locked up for statutory "rape". I am against children having sex, but they are having sex less due to better sex ed anyway, and when they do, I sure as heck don't want the justice system involved. In order for one child to change my mind, they have to point to a majority of children believing in an idea WITHOUT undue adult influence such as Stockholm syndrome.

Ask any one of our advocates what our final goal is, and we will tell you - child inclusion, meaning youth rights. Maybe we don't need a driving age, but instead have people use their commonsense with cars. Maybe we don't need a working age if unions could ensure the safety and rights of child worker. There are a lot of issues I don't pay attention to because it's not my job. I instead must be meek and shamefaced in relation to a child, fear and revere them, and thus respect them and their boundaries.

Most people here think like me - include children in the national conversation. That starts with eliminating all barriers, including domestic violence against children in the home such as spanking or punishing children, meaning anything that keeps children down like the compress they are under must be eliminated from their environment. Children should have a say in matters that concern them.

I propose a voting age of zero. Think about it - most of the children that are incompetent to vote just won't, because they don't want to. The children that want to will read up on everything beforehand. But first, we must ban all domestic violence against children, including spanking and other forms of corporal punishment, but nonetheless any punishment towards children. Let the entitled parents BURN! Repent!
