Many people believe that God's order of the family prescribes that children stay submissive and quiet. It is often viewed as a top-bottom setup. However, the Bible is very clear about the roles of parent and child. Adults are the enemy of children until proven otherwise by the child's acceptance of the parent, based on the reverse.
All adults are capable of harm and abuse towards a child and thus, by default, are marked by deletion, being deserving of DEATH and DESTRUCTION merely for having such capacity. Adults are to submit to the every vulnerable need of a child, leading to indentured servitude and bondservice, and then to validation of needs, expecting absolutely nothing in return. This is Christian love for one's child, and is denoted by the Greek root word αγαπαο (Latin: agapao).
It says in Colossians 3:20-21 KJV:
Children, obey their parents in all things, as is well-pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they become discouraged.
The Greek root word translated "obey" is υπακουο (Latin: hupakouo) and refers to surrender prompted by the surrender of a parent first, meaning the loving surrender to a child's every need, foregoing your own needs, sacrificing one's own child as Christ sacrificed for His children, convicted of being an enemy of one's children as mankind is the enemy of God, and has to pay penance, leading to earning a child's friendship and affinity, in adversarial format, looking upon them, admiring them in a way that assumes ignorance, knowing that one will never understand their children now that they are an adult. This sort of surrender is an open, honest one that surrenders all being to parents, all self to parents, expecting no punishment in return ever, for anything. The Greek root word translated ερεθιζο (Latin: erethizo) and refers to short-term damages, meaning, for example, pain, shame, emotional damages, defamation of character, and/or fornication, all aspects of our wicked and depraved human nature.
Parenting in biblical times was attachment-based, with boys staying with their mothers until age 6, then going with their father for religious instruction, which was verbal in nature. Girls ranged by their mothers, as boys did, until age 12. Infancy lasted until age 3, and there was no societal stigma on breastfeeding then. Punishment was only acceptable then within the realm of a criminal conviction or civil wrong, and otherwise was illegal and a form of entitlement.
The depraved and entitled parents/adults who provoke children to anger will not inherit the Kingdom of God! Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!
