Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
The Greek root word translated "obey" is υπακουο (Latin: hupakouo) and is better translated as "trust" as in "trust your parents in all things". This commandment ultimately refers to secure rest from children in the Agape love of parents. Ultimately, this commandment refers to a secure attachment between parent and child. The biblical context, when used as a guidepost, tells us how to form that secure bond with your child. A good place to start is to tend to the every cry of children.
Children growing up in the Early Church were never punished or reprimanded for crying (see Col. 3:21). This is because most Christian parents in the Early Church knew more than today's parents that children cry to communicate a vulnerable need. Whenever children cried, mothers cooed before picking up, and from there, she diagnosed the need before meeting it,
Children were understood under customary law, in the Early Church, as having five basic categories of needs; food, water, shelter, transportation, and attachment - and the greatest of these needs is attachment! Whenever children needed something, they cried, and kept crying until the need was met. However, most of the time, all children need is YOU.
Crying in children is how they communicate a vulnerable need to parents. Crying is a developmentally appropriate behavior in children. The real reason to worry is if the child isn't crying when they should. I slept through the night from day one as a baby, and my mom saw it as a sign of autism. Lo and behold, I was officially diagnosed with autism at age 2. I didn't even cry due to having a double ear infection. Children need to cry in order to communicate a vulnerable need to parents.
The depraved and entitled parents who punish a child merely for crying will not inherit the Kingdom of God! Let them descend into the abyss which is the lake of fire and burning sulfur, which is the second death prepared for Satan and his accomplices! Repent!
