Whining: Why whining is not bad behavior

Many parents hate it. Whining offends a lot of parents. Most American parents hate it when their child whines. For some reason, it grates on their senses. For me, when a child whines, I coo. Whining is often thought of as bad behavior. The fact of the matter is that whining is not bad behavior in a child, but js normal behavior given their age and development.

Dealing with whining requires background knowledge surrouunding the Christian doctrine of mutual submission. See Colossians 3:20-21 KJV:
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

The Greek root word translated "obey" is υπακουο (Latin: hupakouo) and refers to secure, vulnerable rest in the love and grace of parents. Children are to rest securely in the sacrifice of parents, just as parent believers rest securely in the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Parents are to be extensions of Christ in the family home, dutifully and selflessly submitting to children just as they would to God, expecting absolutely nothing in return, with children resting safely ans securely in the submission of parents. Parents are to submit to children as their enemy, from beneath yet from above, revering and fearing children as vulnerable extensions of God.

The Greek root word translated "provoke...to anger" is ερεθιζο (Latin: erethizo) and refers to damages or offenses, namely the slightest of personal offense perceived by a child, including, but not limited to, the slightest of offensive touch or speech perceived by a child, stemming from entitlement. This commandment was intended by the Apostle Paul, and understood in its original context, as a moral statute prohibiting all forms of punitive parenting, including any punishments or controlling demeanor towards children. In the Old Testament, punitive parents were put to death by way of bloodletting, after punishing their children one last time. Parents who punished their children were charged with kidnapping, with "kidnapping" being defined under the Law as the slightest of damages or offenses stemming from hostage-taking - child punishment was seen in biblical times as holding your child hostage merely for things that they did wrong, thereby treating your child as a quartered slaves. Paul here was lifting up the Law in order to convict a group of Greek Christian parents who brought their pagan custom of spanking and punishing their children into the church. Paul, contrary to popular legend, was anti-spanking, and opposed any and all punishment of a child in his writings.

Whining is a common behavior for older children. Young children cry, scream, and throw tantrums, and in biblical times, they didn't do this because they were in constant closeness to their mothers. Children simply cried passively when they needed something like breastmilk or solid foods (if they previously pushed away the teat of mothers). Whining is a sign of maturity in children, but also a sign that they need to come to you for closeness. Hold even school-age children in skin-on-skin closeness and comfort with you when they whine, and reassure them with the phrase "this too will pass". This is what biblical mothers did to reassure their older children that whined.

Mothers in biblical times formed a secure attachment to their children, and did so by way of nourishment and sustenance, namely attachment parenting items such as breastfeeding and skin-on-skin comfort. During the first 6 years of a child's life, they were in constant closeness to their mothers, never leaving her side, being wrapped up next to her bosom in swaddling blankets, perhaps suckling her teat if milk-hungry. When children aged around age 6, they became more mobile, venturing further and further away from home, playing outside and exploring the terrain. Every once in a while, however, children needed mom, and mothers could tell - the older children were whining.

Skin-on-skin closeness is what is called for when a child whines. When at home or in a public restroom, simply tuck the upset child under your shirt. Then, expect quiet tears from your child, and then they are all good. This should also be comforting for you as a mother, as it should immediately make you aware of your maternal instincts that were buried by living in a punitive parenting society. In order to humble yourself to this level, know that you are a depraved and decadent sinner who is deserving of absolutely nothing from your child, and thus should be grateful for all the joy that child brings you. Keep with that self-talk until you can bring yourself to hold your whining child in skin-on-skin format. A parent of either sex should never be angry with their child, as this anger is unnatural in our nature as adults in relation to children.

The depraved and entitled parents who provoke children to anger through punitive parenting will not inherit the Kingdom of God! Let them be forever cast into the lake of fire and burning sulfur, which is the second death prepared for Satan and his accomplices! Let them descend into the abyss which is the ever-burning Hell of fire and torment, suffering God's Wrath forever and ever! Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!
