Many parents in this country are religious. Mine were, but didn't pass it onto me, meaning my father was a progressive Catholic and my mother a progressive Methodist. Most parents, however, even today, have religious expectations. Many parents want their children to believe just like they do. But are you willing to work for it? Are you willing to not be imposing on your child in the process? Imposing wants on your child is a form of entitlement.
Entitlement is a biblical concept, and repeats the Tenth Commandment in the New Testament. Religious entitlement is denoted by the Greek root word πλεονέκτης (Latin: pleonektés) and refers to wanting your child to believe like you, to the point of seeking to impose said want onto a child, meaning the unlawful intent behind religious child abuse, which is a form of provocation to anger under biblical law.
Religious teaching is formatted by the doctrine of mutual submission between parents and children. It says in Ephesians 6:1-4 KJV:
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor thy father and mother, for this is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long upon the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
The Greek root word translated "nurture" is παιδεία (Latin: paideia) and means layers in terms of religious education. This involves a Christ-like example towards children, meaning being a giving example of Christ in the home for your child (with your child being lawfully extended by God), and this means being a good role model in terms of your religious beliefs, in order to influence your children with good Christian teachings. The idea is to speak of religion and be religious around children, in a specific position and way that invites children to be religious, with children then surrendering to parents for religious instruction willfully and intentionally, with much curiosity as to the religious beliefs of the parent, with parents being a child's first ambassadors of Christ. This word also refers to a form of communication known as Socratic reasoning, which includes question and answer sessions with children, alongside answering a question with a question to get a child to think for themselves. The idea is for children to think for themselves, and decide for themselves as an adult what religion to endorse and follow, hoping it is your beliefs as a parent, but accepting your child any way once they chose to hear it out, if they chose, meaning you can't control your child, so control yourself in a Christ-like and they will follow. Religious liberty is an American value, and it comes from religious non-entitlement in parents. The Greek root word translated "admonition" is νουθεσία (Latin: nouthesia) and refers to the pointers along the way when children are acting completely out of sorts, usually in an unsafe way, and need to be warned that certain behavior is unacceptable. The idea is not to mean it, meaning if they do not comply with non-binding parental instruction, they should be left go and kept safe. This can mean removing a 2-year-old from an unsafe situation repeatedly, with them then wiggling out of your arms. Just wait until they are done protesting, because they don't understand right from wrong, or safe from unsafe, until later, and thus shouldn't be expected to know things they can't possibly know. Certain behaviors may violate your values, such as early sexual behavior, and the idea is to issue a warning of what that behavior means, but know that they might not listen to you, so you just let it happen but don't like it. If they are religious children, as children can be, they may regret it later on their own, as children who willfully and intentionally take up religion start out a bit off, then conform to a specific denomination. This is all weighed by the Greek root word παροργίζο (Latin: parorgizo) and refers to the moral offense of provocation to anger, when imposed on a child. This was a direct command from God from the Apostle Paul that prohibited any form of punishment of a child, including corporal punishment. Corporal punishment especially, but all punishment, was seen as a grave provocation to anger, meaning kidnapping, or hostage-taking in the midst of instructing children. It was a common Greco-Roman custom, but Paul would have none of it in the Christian churches he oversaw.
The Greek root word translated "obey" is υπακουο (Latin: hupakouo) and refers to secure, vulnerable rest in the love and grace of parents, coming from sacrifice for your child, in the spirit of Christ sacrificing for His children; taking up the cross, in the spirit of Christ taking up the cross for His children; martyring oneself in everything in parenting, leading to children resting in the warmth and love of parents, expecting absolutely nothing in return. This Greek root word ultimately uplifts the Judeo-Christian parenting traditions of the biblical context, which are attachment-based in nature. Children went in the nude in the biblical context, and it was legal, and that was because mothers, who were also not clothed at home, snuggled with their children up to age 3 as infants, breastfeeding them as such, with the child being held to them with swaddling bands. Mothers co-slept with children older than that as a norm, up until adulthood. Right up until adulthood, mothers and daughters were unseperable.
Don't preach to your child. Influence your child. Be a role model to them in terms of proper religious practice by your standards, and hope they become their standards as well. You don't push religion onto a child, but model it to them to influence them. They can be interested as young as age 6 if they are not punished as a form of raising children. Parents should be chastened up in Christian fashion, exemplifying Christ and His sacrificial attitude and the sacrifice He made for His children.
The depraved and entitled parents will not inherit the Kingdom of God! Let them burn in the lake of fire and burning sulfur, which is the second death prepared for Satan and his accomplices! Let them descend into the Hell of fire which is eternal torment, with God hating their souls for their moral crimes against children! Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!
