What is the doctrine of patria potestas? The idea that the man of the house rules everything, and keeps everyone down. Many modern Christian conservatives wrongfully comingle this false theology with actual family values, which are slightly different, in a notable way that humanizes women and children.
Patria potestas is was a concept in ancient Rome, where only men were seen as fully human, and enslaved their families. A man's will was very important, and a woman or child was to respect the will of their "godhead" over their own will. A man was deemed a sexualized creature, and thus a man's sexual will was also seen as inevitable. This is very hard on pedophiles in situations where this theology is well in practice, as pedophiles cannot be in relationship or wedlock with those they are attracted.
The Hebraic understanding of the family is much more egalitarian, and based on the concept of mutual submission. Man was the head of his wife, with his wife being in punitive custody, denoted by the Greek root word υποτασσο (Latin: hupotasso) and refers to standing by your man, basically. It is that form of submission, in reverent format, seeing one's husband as enticing in a reverent way for being there to protect you, and having the right to simply rest in his providence. This form of submission confers minimal responsibility, meaning that a woman must respect her husband, or get a divorce if he is entitled. Entitlement leading to theft is denoted by the core Greek root word πλεονέκτης (Latin: pleonektés) and refers here to spousal entitlement, namely wanting things from a wife that she won't allow, usually related to agreement or disagreement on a domestic topic, to the point of seeking to impose said want onto a wife, leading to theft/abuse, meaning any abuse she perceives based on any entitlement she perceives, with her thinking critically. Children have similar rest, but without any obligations whatsoever to the male head of household, with υπακουο (Latin: hupakouo) and refers to providing custody, or providing for one's child with no expectation of any return gift, or even respect or praise in return. Wifely submission expects at least a "thank you", at least in attitude, or else leave.
Roman submission is cowering under a man, whereas Hebraic submission is standing by a man, in affinity and loyalty. Borrowing from the Roman context is blasphemy, as the Bible is a Hebraic document. I go solely by the Hebraic context. Many people simply mix up the two contexts, based on abusive teaching, and then lose faith. There is nothing in the Hebraic understanding of the Bible that allows for domestic violence or battery against spouses or children, and all of the Bible is positioned by God against such evil.

Any comment that
1. Endorses child abuse (including pornography of such)
2. Imposes want to the point of imposition, meaning entitlement.
3. Contains self-entitled parent rhetoric, to the point of self-victimization
will not be published. Flexible application. Debate is allowed, but only civil arguments that presume the best of intentions in their opponent, on both sides.
