Righteous co-sleeping: Why co-sleeping is recommended in the Bible

Many parents think that co-sleeping is an irresponsible choice. Most parents in the United States are avoidant of co-sleeping, and that is due to, mainly, the false belief that children will lose their "ability" to self-soothe. The fact of the matter is that, not only do children acquire the ability to self-soothe on their own, but that co-sleeping can prevent child sexual abuse.

Skin-on-skin co-sleeping is the ultimate form of mutual submission between mother and child, where the child surrenders into the loving arms of parents, to go to sleep. See Colossians 3:20-21 KJV:

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

The Greek root word translated "obey" is υπακουο (Latin: hupakouo) and refers to secure, vulnerable rest in the love and submission of parents. Children are to rest securely in the sacrifice of parents, just as parent believers rest securely in the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This word for child surrender allows for children to issue righteous demands, particularly when parents aren't paying back their fair share.

The Greek root word translated "provoke...to anger" is ερεθιζο (Latin: erethizo) and refers to damages or offenses, namely the slightest of personal offense perceived by a child, including, but not limited to, the slightest of offensive touch or speech perceived by a child, stemming from entitlement. This commandment was intended by the Apostle Paul, and understood in its original context, as a moral statute prohibiting all forms of punitive parenting, including, but not limited to, any punishments, reprimands, or other controlling demeanor towards children. In the Old Testament, punitive parents were charged with kidnapping, with "kidnapping" being defined under the Law as the slightest of damages or offenses stemming from hostage-taking - child punishment was seen as holding your child hostage merely for things that they did wrong, thereby treating your child as a quartered slave. Paul here was lifting up the Law in order to convict a group of Greek Christian parents who brought their pagan custom of spanking and punishing children into the church. Paul, contrary to popular legend, was anti-spanking, and opposed any and all punishment of a child in his secular writings. Indeed, Greco-Roman fathers used the scourge of cords on their children, but NOT the Christians among them - the Early Christians were largely hated  for being "too soft" on their children.

It is common knowledge that children between the ages of 2 and 6 refuse to go to bed on their own. This is normal behavior in children, and points to the fact that children that young are not ready to sleep on their own. They have a primal fear, at that age, of being devoured by predators. Even though predators then, such as venomous snakes and scorpions, don't exist today, sexual predators do exist. Most child sexual abuse occurs when a child is isolated in a room alone, either in a crib or in a bed. That's where co-sleeping comes in. Nothing can happen, as the mother is right there. When something does come out of the father, he is forced to confront his parent attractions, and masturbate to the sexual thoughts he has towards his child.

Many parents are afraid of compromising their child's ability to self-soothe. The fact of the matter is that all co-sleeping has an end to it. In the Early Church, co-sleeping ended once the child reached the onset of puberty. When children reached the onset of puberty, they wanted their own place to sleep. This shaking off from children was seen as the beginning of the end - when the child no longer needed the warmth of mothers. Such was bittersweet for mothers, and exciting for fathers.

Righteous co-sleeping means co-sleeping done a certain way. That certain way, according to the context, was skin-on-skin co-sleeping, which happened every single night until the child shook off the warmth and comfort of mothers. Skin-on-skin co-sleeping was intended to build a strong bond between mother and child, that would translate onto fathers later on in childhood. Skin-on-skin co-sleeping, when done every night, prepares the man of the house for being an attachment parent.

The depraved and entitled parents who provoke their children to anger through punitive parenting will not inherit the Kingdom of God! Let them forever be cast into the lake of fire and burning sulfur, which is the second death prepared for Satan and his accomplices! Let them descend into the abyss which is the ever-burning Hell of fire and torment, suffering God's Wrath day and night forever and ever! Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!
